CAOL ILA 2010
Positioned on the rugged eastern coast of Islay, Caol Ila is renowned for its consistency, a factor made all the more remarkable by the large volumes it produces, the most on the island. Its spirit is predominantly peppery and floral with gentle smoke notes, often infused with seashore flavours, as is the case with this lively, vibrant expression.
Tasting Notes
The nose is all rich, sooty smoke, tart gooseberries and coastal notes, before sweet liquorice and aniseed coat the tongue. Warming smoke is balanced by sharp menthyl and eucalyptus, followed by a fragrant fusion of peppermint and lapsang souchong tea. Smoke wafts into a long, mellowing finish, lingering sweetly before fading with star anise notes.
